A little History

The Torc Waterfall has a charming history. The name “Torc” comes from the Irish word for boar. According to legend, the waterfall was home to a magical boar. The story says the boar was a cursed prince, roaming the woods until slain by the hero Fionn MacCumhaill.

In the 19th century, it became popular place for taking the Grand Tour of Ireland.

One notable visitor was Queen Victoria. She visited Killarney in 1861. Her visit brought much attention to the area and of course she admired Torc Waterfall a lot. The Queen’s visit attracts more tourists to Torc Waterfall.
